Between 1.00pm and 3.00pm every Thursday, more or less, the Agbrigg Writers meet at Agbrigg Community Centre, Montague Street, Agbrigg, Wakefield to pursue their interest in creative writing. All styles of writing are covered and the sessions are geared towards giving a platform from which to read completed work from previous weeks and to read and discuss other material which often acts as a starting point for further work.
In addition to the above, the group has developed a track record of publication. Books and booklets have been produced which include poetry, fiction and life writing. (See the publication page for further details.)
The group has also benefited from guest writers who are often invited to come along and share tips about a writing life, and from the support of the Wakefield LitFest Seed Funding scheme which has enabled the group to extend the range of its work through open events.
Anyone who feels that they would like to develop their creative writing skills in an open, friendly and supportive environment and is interested in joining the group should register their interest via the contact page. Interested newcomers are welcome to try one or two meetings before committing themselves to membership. Termly fees are held at a much cheaper rate than local adult education classes.
It would be remiss to move on further without mentioning tea. A tea break is called during every session where tea and very often cake is taken. The smiles in the picture above are testament to the popularity of Monty's Cafe within the Community Centre where our breaks are held.
